I meant to post an update last week, BUT I had a kidney infection. Went in on Thursday and they were like "Its nothing, go home". Went back on Saturday, barely functional, and they decided to take me seriously - probably aided by the fact that I totally puked in front of the doctor. Then, I had a small reaction to the medication they had me on. Got that switched yesterday - first day of being somewhat functional. Today I feel way better - not 100%, but definitely capable of making it through the grocery store, doing housework, putting in a full day at work (because YES I was working while barely functional), and doing normal things. I think I can lift ~50lbs without feeling it, but I'm not heading to the gym quite yet. Maybe in a day or two when I get rid of all the body aches.
I am very concerned about this effecting the IPL show at the end of September.
What is a kidney infection?
In simple terms, a kidney infection is caused by some strain of outside bacteria entering the kidneys. Apparently women are more susceptible than men. Treatment is a round of antibiotics.
Symptoms include: Burning while urinating, flank pain (front and back of each side of the torso), fever and/or chills, bloody or cloudy pee that might have an odor, urgent need to pee frequently, nausea and/or vomiting, confusion, abdominal pain.
You can get it in the same manner as you might a bladder infection. If you are at the gym all the time working up a sweat, you could possibly get one just from that. You're sweaty, your gym clothes are holding sweat and grime right there around your pelvic region, and you can't always be sure that the last person to use the equipment cleaned up after themselves. I think that's what happened in my case.
Keep working out. Make sure you wipe down the gym equipment after you're done using it to help prevent any UTIs.
