Goth yoga has stepped onto the stage of themed yoga sessions. You may know about beer yoga, baby goat yoga, puppy yoga, metal yoga, and other types of themed yoga sessions. Goth yoga is done regularly in some locations and there are some goth yoga retreats available.
Yoga
Yoga can be done by men, women, kids, pregnant women, and elderly. Variations of the moves are provided by instructors. There are 11 different types of yoga: Vinyasa, Hatha, Iyengar, Kundalini, Ashtanga, Bikram (hot), Yin, Restorative, Prenatal, Anusara, and Jivamukti. Each style has a different focus. It appears that the popular goth yoga spots in the US are: Boston, Houston, and Oakland. Any goth can go to any yoga classes in their area. The themed yoga sessions often offer particular music and atmosphere, instead of the standard yoga studio set up.
If you are interested in having a goth yoga class in your area and you simply can’t find one, you have 2 choices: 1) become a yoga instructor so you can teach classes OR 2) talk to a local yoga studio about trying out goth yoga.
For those interested in providing a new local class, you may want to consider the following ideas:
Have 2 or 3 goth yoga playlists ready to go
Black, purple, red, gravestone, bats, skulls, coffins, etc are all good colors and prints for gothic yoga mats
Candles (real or LED) and velvet curtains can really boost the atmosphere of an indoor location
Outdoor locations to consider: cemetery, churchyard, park
You may offer special extras, included with the class price, such as a bottle of BLK Water per attendee or after yoga coffee (like Bones Coffee, Raven’s Brew, Deadly Grounds, or Hexe Brew) or something like that. It doesn’t have to be anything big.
